Palestinian Public Attitudes towards Iran

Volume |Issue 22| Sep 2016 |Arab Opinion Index

Abstract

Palestinian public opinion is broadly opposed to Iran and its policies in the Arab region. This is the result of a gradual, accumulative process beginning with Iran’s approach to the development of the Arab revolutions, particularly in Syria, as well as Iran’s role in Iraqi affairs. Palestinians tend to believe that Iran contributes to the overall chaos in the Arab region, complicating the conflict. Indeed, Palestinians have come to view Iran as a regional power with imperialist ambitions, one which adopts policies that aim to expand its own influence at the expense of Arab states, and that Iran fans the flames of sectarian and ethnic tensions in the Arab region.
