This article discusses the experience of the Emergency Response Rooms in Sudan during the ongoing conflict since 15 April 2023, focusing on the challenges of voluntary humanitarian work and highlighting the role of local actors and their capacity to respond rapidly through developing innovative, community-based methods. The study aims to clarify their role as a voluntary mechanism in addressing the impacts of conflict and assesses their ability to continue despite these challenges, as well as the extent to which the Emergency Response Rooms can serve as a model for a local humanitarian partner by comparing it with similar initiatives in the international context. In conclusion, Emergency Response Rooms reflect the importance of the localization of humanitarian work in enhancing rapid response in complex conflict settings.
